True Hero

Selena wakes up in the morning with a boring sigh. She rinses her face and does all her morning work in a routine. Then she leaves for school, where she daydreams all the time expecting something to happen in her boring and exhausting life. After having a boring day at school, she came home with a slumbery and dull face. She notices that her mom is late from work. “AGAIN! Seriously! Now I'm all alone.” she bellowed. There was not a single sound. Then she switched on the TV and nibbled a bowl of cereal and omelette. Then she texted her mom (more like scolding) and went to bed. 

Suddenly, an unexpected, bright figure appeared in her room. She woke up to see what’s happening. Selena was speechless at the moment. There was a big unicorn standing near her bed. It obviously looked colourful and cute. It was a magical scene, surely. The unicorn started to utter words. One problem, the unicorn was speaking in another language. Then a few minutes later,“Oops! I forgot to speak in english. Pardon me, Selena. I would like to introduce myself. I’m Railyn, Poppy Railyn.” said Poppy. After a few minutes, “How do you know my name and my home address?” Selena questioned after a big shock. “You are the chosen one. Your destiny is to get these powers.” explained Poppy. “What powers! Are you joking?” shockingly asked Selena. “Let me explain. Since your life is soooo boring, I will give you some powers which will make your life an interesting adventure. But I need your permission to give you powers. So, will you accept?” requested Poppy. “Oh yes, I would love to!” exclaimed Selena. Then, the unicorn started to force its horn, and a magical radiant line of powers transferred from its horn to Selena's hands. 

As the unicorn finished, Selena felt enchanted (in both meanings). “So you have invisibility, flying, making other things disappear and flying, teleporting abilities.” explained Poppy. Selena was  exhilarated to try out her powers. “ Be careful! These powers can bring you happiness or sadness. It’s up to you and how you use it. And remember to keep it as a secret'' warned Poppy as she disappeared into thin air. Selena didn’t notice Poppy vanishing because she was too busy  trying to make herself invisible and guess what? It actually worked! She stood up and rushed to the mirror. She couldn’t see her reflection. Then, she glanced at the clock, it was almost time for her mom to arrive home. So she became visible and went to bed as she could hear the door opening. Slowly, she fell asleep. 

Next morning, she was excited to tell about the magic to everyone in the school. Selena thought when she boast about magic powers to her class, everyone would feel jealous. First, she started with her best friend, Diana who was standing in the corridor of the school. “What! Are you kidding me? I’m not buying this! Prove it to me if you can!” exclaimed Diana, surprised. “Actually, I can!” said Selena. She teleported Diana and herself to the doorway of her classroom. Diana was astounded by her powers. “ Goodness gracious! You are right. How did you get these powers?” desperately asked Diana. Selena explained the whole story. “I'm gonna spread the entire school about my fascinating powers and I will be the most popular kid on earth.” she boasted with a giggle. “Wait, didn’t that unicorn tell you to keep it as a secret because usually in fantasy movies it will be that way?” asked Diana. “ Yeah, but no big deal if I tell everyone - as if that unicorn will turn me into a frog or something - that unicorn is not even that powerful!” as she laughed at her own joke. “ Are you sure it won’t harm you? I think you have to stop telling everyone about your powers.” assured Diana. “Pff! You’re just jealous that I'm going to be the most famous kid.” bragged Selena as she heard the school bell. Diana was disappointed at Selena's attitude, but she knew Selena would realise and return to apologise later. 

Selena told her other friends that she wants to tell them a super surprising secret and told them to meet her at home. After school, they arrived. She elaborated the story. They didn’t believe her just as Diana and asked her to prove it. “Yes! I will but in front of the whole school in Thursday assembly as today is Monday. I called you guys to spread this news like wildfire to everyone in the school. I should be the centre of attention and everyone should be talking about me.” she finished proudly. Her friends agreed immediately. They wanted to see Selena doing magic, of course. They all left Selena alone in her home. BOOM! An idea! A marvellous one! It was nighttime and the stars were shining bright in the sky. What if she takes a little flight in the night? She opened her window and wanted to jump out of it to fly but she couldn’t because she was paralysed with fear if her flying power did not work. She took a deep breath and took a step closer to the window. Then she jumped out of the window, hoping it would work. Soon, her hands began to change into the marvellous wings of a phoenix. And she was soon fluttering in the sky. She gazed upon the dazzling stars at midnight. Everything was just perfect, it couldn’t be better. But the unicorn, Poppy, was noticing everything from up. Poppy was waiting eagerly for Thursday's assembly. 

Days passed by, and soon everyone in the school knew about Selena’s strange powers. Diana was concerned about Selena’s plan. Diana constantly texted Selena to drop this plan, but Selena didn’t bother. Selena was wrapped up with pride and enjoyment. Soon the most awaited moment came, it was Thursday. Everyone was cheering for Selena. She stepped onto the stage fearlessly. She held onto the mic and said “ I will be soaring up in the sky right now!” Then Selena was ready to fly but something happened! She cannot fly! Then she tried an invisibility spell and a teleportation spell which did not work. Everyone in the school was cackling at Selena. Selena was humiliated and furious at the same time. She went down the stage and took her bag and headed home. Classes are continuing but no one could stop talking about the assembly. Selena went home raged with anger. Her face was as red as a tomato. 

After school, Diana went to visit Selena. “Are you happy that you were right?” snarled Selena. “Wait, listen to me. Now, try out any of your power. I am sure it will work.” told Diana. “Why? Want to see me fail again?” asked Selena. Diana insisted Selena. Then Selena tried it out. It worked! “ How is this possible? It didn’t work at school.” she squealed in confusion. “Well, it was a punishment for you to realise that you were overwhelmed with your pride, you did not notice that you had hurt me. It teaches you a lesson to respect something that someone has granted you. Did you ever wonder why that unicorn has chosen you? It was to test your gratitude. You can use magic for good and show gratitude to everyone, then you will become a TRUE HERO." Diana finished. Selena hugged Diana tightly. “Thank you! Sorry too!” said Selena. Afterwards, Selena used magic for good things in secret and  everyone started loving her and forgot about the “incident” except Selena.

           And do you know something, Diana is the unicorn.
