Want to learn more about ecosystems? Join us to protect the environment! I went to a workshop arranged by our school recently. The workshop was about ecosystem restoration.

I was filled with curiosity, enthusiasm and excitement, especially when I was going with my best friend. We were supposed to bring a rough notebook and a pen to note down information. We got into the bus, talked until we reached the workshop. After some while, we reached the site. I thought the workshop was in a gigantic building but it was in an eco-park. The place was interesting. A member of the E.F.I (Environmentalist Foundation of India) was ready to explain to us about the environment.

He asked a question first. “ What is your favourite species?” Many people answered lion, tiger, hyena and panther. He asked how many of you like frogs or insects which we see in our daily life. We were silent and speechless - it was a tricky question. Then he elucidated why we don’t bother about those animals which helps us in many ways. Then we moved on to the topic of water bodies. He explained about the rivers, canals near us. Also about the purpose of them and the ways we pollute them. He told many points about how to prevent polluting them. We made notes of all of these in our rough notebook.

Soon, we discussed the main problem of the world - plastic waste. He made us analyse and change our viewpoints on plastic. We also talked about the two types of waste (man-made, natural). After some time we did an activity based on waste. He told us to collect man-made waste and natural things around this eco-park (it was weird to collect waste but it was definitely fun). Finally, we thanked sir and returned to school. After lunch, we played cricket and “truth or dare” for some time. You think this is the end, DON’T YOU? Never ! There’s more to the story (I don’t want you guys to stop reading). They have planned some programs like presenting us a Science Film Festival in which we watched short movies about ecosystems which were mind-blowing.

They elaborated more about global warming, sea levels and mainly about carbon dioxide. We did a few experiments on them which were satisfying and fun. Then we saw a video about different species and their habitat. Based on the video, we did an activity by sticking the animals in their respective habitat. After we finished, we expressed our fulfilment of this workshop to our mentors. We thanked them deep from our hearts for giving us such a unique experience!

Let’s save earth ! Go Green !

I know we can’t stop using plastic but please decrease the usage of plastic. Also maintain a clean and pollution free environment. Try to keep the water bodies clean and fresh.

We need MORE OXYGEN, LESS CARBON DIOXIDE !
